What is Long Term Care (LTC) Insurance?

We all might need a little extra help some day as the result of an accident, illness, or age. This help might be simple things like bathing or dressing. Having this help from family or professionals is critical in allowing us to remain at home and as independent as possible. While family can help, the burden can become overwhelming at times. That’s why having a plan in place is so important to allow for paid/hired care at home. If we do need to move to an assisted living or memory care place, the need for a financial plan for this is even more important.

This type of care is NOT covered by medical insurance or Medicare – and only once you're impoverished is it covered by Medicaid, and often only in a nursing home; where we’d rather not be.

National Data Shows:

  • 62% of caregivers are between the ages of 25-54
  • 52% of caregivers are the adult children of the recipients
  • Caregivers provide care for 3-4 years
  • Recipients who suffer from Alzheimer’s disease or dementia may require care for 10+ years

Nearly 70% of people turning age 65 can expect to use some form of long term care during their lives, but only 1/3 of Americans have set aside money to protect themselves or loved ones should the need arise.
